BTR Scanner News provides incident awareness and community news by monitoring publicly available public safety radio traffic and other publicly accessible information sources. This page explains how to interpret the information we publish and the limits on its use.
Emergency Notice: Do not call 911 or emergency services to ask about incidents posted on this website or our social media. If you have an emergency, call 911.
1) Informational Use Only (Not Official)
All content is provided for informational and public awareness purposes only. It is not an official public safety feed, not a dispatch service, and not a substitute for official alerts or instructions from authorities.
2) Not Affiliated With Any Agency
BTR Scanner News is an independent news and community information outlet and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any law enforcement agency, fire department, EMS agency, dispatch center, OEM/EMA, or any local/state/federal government entity.
3) Accuracy, Verification, and Rapidly Changing Events
Incidents evolve quickly. Scanner traffic and initial reports may be incomplete, misheard, delayed, or later corrected. We may update, revise, or remove posts as new information becomes available.
Official agency statements and emergency instructions always take priority over any information published by BTR Scanner News.
4) New Jersey Context (Scanner Monitoring)
In New Jersey, members of the public may monitor many public safety radio communications where lawfully accessible. However, laws and policies may vary by agency and circumstance, and some communications may be restricted, encrypted, delayed, or unavailable.
BTR Scanner News does not encourage misuse of radio communications. Content may be limited or withheld to avoid interfering with public safety operations, compromising investigations, or increasing risk to responders or the public.
5) Privacy, Safety, and Sensitive Incidents
To protect privacy, safety, and investigative integrity, BTR Scanner News may delay, redact, or omit details including:
- Victim, witness, or reporting party identifying information
- Medical details or protected personal information
- Juvenile-related information
- Domestic or sensitive incidents
- Active tactical operations, staging locations, or responder positioning
We also may avoid posting certain calls entirely. Updates may be delayed and some incidents may not be shown due to privacy, safety, or verification restrictions.
6) Do Not Use This Site for Emergency Decisions
Do not use information from this website to make emergency decisions, respond to incidents, or attempt to self-dispatch. Always follow instructions from official sources (law enforcement, fire, EMS, OEM/EMA, NWS, and other authorities).
7) User Tips, Submissions, and Liability
